Martin Parker

Short Biography

Born Staffordshire, UK, 1975

A composer, improviser and soloist with laptop, my sound-centric work focuses on the encounter between computers, people and places. Based in Edinburgh, I perform and compose music in collaborative, notated and experimental contexts.  Recent pieces include Man High, an audiovisual collaboration with Stephen Deazley and Andy McGregor, GruntCount an improvised piece for instrument and computer and Songs for an airless room, an “opera” for cinema.

I am Artistic Director of Edinburgh’s Dialogues Festival, one third of free improvisation trio Lapslap and a regular performer with edimpro, Edinburgh’s free improvisation collective.

I studied composition at the University of Manchester and completed a Ph.D in Composition at the University of Edinburgh in 2003. I am Programme Director of the University of Edinburgh’s MSc in Sound Design.

Some of my music is available on Ein Klang and Leo Records. You can download some scores and performance resources from my publisher
