Born Staffordshire, UK, 1975

A composer, improviser and soloist with laptop, my sound-centric projects focus on encounters between computers, people and places. Based in Edinburgh, I perform and compose works involving computers, sound installations and sound design projects with a range of theatre companies, symphony orchestras, visual artists and ensembles.  Recent pieces include Man High, an audiovisual collaboration with Stephen Deazley and Andy McGregor, GruntCount a configurable improvisation for instrument and computer and Songs for an airless room, an “opera” for cinema.

I am Artistic Director of Edinburgh’s Dialogues Festival www.dialogues-festival.org and one third of free improvisation trio Lapslap.

I studied composition at the University of Manchester and completed a Ph.D in Composition at the University of Edinburgh in 2003. I am Programme Director of the University of Edinburgh’s MSc in Sound Design.
